Glossary/Gaze plot

Gaze plot

also: scanpath

A gaze plot (or scanpath) draws the ordered path the eye takes across a page: numbered fixations connected by lines. Where a heatmap shows where attention concentrates, a gaze plot shows in what order — the story of how a page is read.

Two pages can share the same hot zones but be read in a completely different order. A gaze plot reveals sequence: does the eye hit the headline first and then the CTA, or does it start on an image, wander to the footer, and never reach the offer?

Order matters because comprehension is built step by step. If your value proposition is fixation number seven, most visitors have already decided by then. Modeling the likely scanpath helps you design a page that reads in the sequence you intend.
